Did You Know There Is A New Subway Line Coming To Finch?

Imagine a transit system that is fast, efficient, fully accessible trains with easy entry at stations for wheelchairs and strollers that can connect you to anywhere you need to go. 

If you’re in Northwest Toronto, you won’t need to imagine for much longer. 

Coming in early 2023, the Finch West Light Rail Train is planned to open. Read on to learn more about the rapid changes coming to Finch!

WHAT is the Finch West Light Rail Train?

The Finch West Light Rail Train is a fully accessible, 11-kilometre light rail line between Keele and Humber College. It will utilize the centre of the roadway, split from regular traffic. 

The Finch West LRT will have 18 stops, including 16 surface stops, one underground interchange station at Finch West, and one below-grade terminal stop at Humber College.

 

WHERE Will The Finch West LRT Connect?

Finally, there will be fast, reliable transit from Humber College all the way to Finch West Station! Trains will run on a dedicated track every 5-7 minutes during peak travel hours and 7-10 minutes during off-peak hours. The estimated travel time of the entire length of the line is 38 minutes. There are 18 stations in the Finch West LRT, including:

  • 16 surface stations
  • 1 underground interchange station at Finch West – Connects to the TTC Line 1, York and Peel Region local transit
  • 1 below-grade terminal stop at Humber College – Connects to other local transit services GO Train, Miway, Viva, and Züm

WHEN Will The Finch West LRT Open For Use?

The Finch West Light Rail Line is planned to open in early 2023! Upon completion, the Finch West LRT will provide rapid transit to approximately 46,000 passengers daily.

HOW Will The Finch West LRT Benefit Canadians?

The Finch West Light Rail Line not only cuts travel and connection times, but it’s also set to be a significant economic boost. 

There is also no doubt of its effectiveness, either. Within ten years, The Finch West LRT is expected to amass an annual ridership estimate of 12 million passengers.

WHY Are ‘They’ Doing All This?

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx began construction on the Finch West Light Rail Train in 2019. The Province of Ontario and the Federal Government are funding the project as part of the commitment to Toronto transit expansion. The entire project is projected to cost approximately $2.5 billion. Developers expect the Finch West LRT to be up and running in early 2023.
